
BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Billy Wayne McClendon Sr. was born and raised near Mount Enterprise, as the twelfth and last child born to the late LeOra and LeRoy McClendon, Sr.
His father died when he was seven months old, and he and the rest of his family were then raised by a single mother. Raised in a devout Christian family environment with strong moral values, laid a foundation that has followed him throughout his life.
He earned a basketball scholarship to Letourneau University, and then received a Bachelor of Arts from LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas; a Political Science Certification from the University of Texas at Tyler; a Masters in Theological Studies and earned Doctorate of Ministries from Perkins School of Theology at SMU in Dallas, Texas. He was an Adjunct Professor of Religion at Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, Texas, and is currently a Chaplain for the Austin Police Department.
As Senior Pastor of the St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Austin, Texas, he has emerged as one of the most influential spiritual leaders of this generation, as he has gained the notoriety of being a Pastor with a heart for the people. Dr. McClendon's living testimony is, "You Can Make It, If You Try".
He and his lovely wife, Bernetta, founded the Maranatha Marriage & Family Ministries, International to help strengthen marriages and families. They are the proud parents of five wonderful children (one deceased) and grandparents to 11 spry and energetic grandchildren and 2 enthusiastic great grandchildren.
